CBD For 4-Legged Friends
Knowing the benefits of CBD for humans, it makes sense that many pet owners are curious about the benefits of CBD for their furry companions. Whether you’re looking to manage epilepsy, arthritis, anxiety, appetite issues or just to release some nervous energy, CBD for your pets is worth looking into.*
Who Uses CBD For Their Pets?
The American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association (AHVMA) did a recent study on the effect of various hemp products on animals. Of surveyed pet owners, 58.8% use a hemp product for their dog, mainly to treat an illness or condition diagnosed by their vet. These conditions include: seizures, cancer, anxiety and arthritis. 11.93% of cat owners use hemp products for their pets. 81.8% use hemp to treat veterinarian-diagnosed conditions.*
Veterinarian Opinions On Using CBD For Pets
Recent studies show that CBD has similar anti-epileptic effects in humans and in animals. Another study indicates that CBD restores liver function, normalizes 5-HT levels and improves brain pathology in both people and pets. Yet another study shows that the anti-emetic (anti-vomiting) effect of cannabinoids has been shown across a wide variety of animals. These are just a small sampling of the numerous studies investigating animals and their responses to medical CBD, but the overwhelming response has been positive.*
Why does CBD work for animals?
It all comes down to the endocannabinoid system. This system is present in humans and many other animals, including cats and dogs. Our body’s endocannabinoid system is in charge of regulating sleep patterns, appetite and general mood. Our bodies already produce cannabinoids in its regulation of emotion and sleep – ingesting CBD can trigger the release of more. Because this system exists in both humans and our pets, we see similar effects and benefits in all parties. It’s true that animals metabolize CBD and other cannabinoids slightly differently than humans. However, veterinary studies into these effects are giving us a better understanding of how to best help our furry friends through CBD.*
Will Your Pet Get High?
Some pet owners may be nervous to use hemp products for their pets, fearing that their furry companions will experience psychoactive effects. Because CBD is not psychoactive, it will have no psychoactive effects on dogs when dosed properly. THC toxicity is a concern, but again that’s only an issue with products containing too much THC. Using high-quality hemp-derived CBD products like Brothers Apothecary edibles for your pets is the safest way to go!*

Hey Brothers!
Thank you for informing us about the soothing effects of CBD on animals that suffer from epilepsy, arthritis, anxiety, appetite issues, etc. This actually is an interesting article. What I would like to ask is if it can and should be used on healthy cats and dogs? My cat Yoda is a perfectly healthy cat but sometimes she can become quite aggressive, especially towards the dog. Would CBD help with her aggression and if yes would it have any side effects? Regards.
